An artist called Mauriello shows abstract, realistic and expressionistic paintings. There are more unresolved styles here than one can shake a stick at. In “The Devil is a Woman” we get a vamp with orange eyelids, crimsom hair and the paradigm mole over the lip. The style is bad Sunset Boulevard billboard turned worse painting. As if that weren’t enough, there are also romantic abstractions, crackly apocalyptic abstractions, and none of it goes anywhere. There may well be talent here, but the work needs desperately to pinpoint and polish a formal and emotional point of view. (Eilat Gordin Gallery, 644 N. Robertson Blvd., to Sept. 5.)
