FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — A poisonous 14-inch pygmy rattler hiding in a plant bit a discount store customer, who was hospitalized suffering from blurred vision, nausea and a badly swollen hand.
Edward N. Cullom said he thought he had been pricked by a thorn when he reached down to pick up the plant at the garden center of the Wal-Mart discount store Wednesday.
“But then I got stuck again,” he said. “I pulled my hand back, and there was a snake hanging off my finger.”
City firefighters identified the reptile as a pygmy rattlesnake.
