Ramos Gets Second Gold in Diving

Brian Ramos accumulated 461.30 points to win the 3-meter event Thursday for his second gold medal at the U.S. Junior Olympic Diving Championships at Irvine’s Heritage Park.
Ramos, 15, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., who won the 1-meter championship Wednesday, was one of two Americans to win world age-group titles two weeks ago in Norway.
Ricky Wood of Simi Valley was second Thursday in the boys’ 14- to 15-year-old event with 429.15 points.
In other events, Mission Viejo’s Joy Burkholder won the girls’ 13-and-under 1-meter diving with 269.45 points. Jace McNiel of Dallas took the boys’ 13-and-under 3-meter title with 324.75 points. Eileen Richetelli of Milford, Conn., won the girls’ 14-15 1-meter title with 365.25 points.
The meet, which runs through Sunday, continues today at 9 a.m. with girls’ 12-and-under platform diving and 15-17 3-meter diving. Boys’ events include 12-and-under platform diving and 14-15 1-meter diving.
