Simi Valley Teen Wins 2nd Silver in Junior Diving

Ricky Wood of Simi Valley won his second silver medal at the U.S. Junior Olympic Diving Championships at Heritage Park Pool in Irvine on Thursday.
Mike Ramos of Boca Raton, Fla., who defeated Wood in the one-meter springboard event Wednesday, scored 461.30 points in the three-meter competition of the age 14-15 division to win his second gold.
Wood, 14, who will attend Royal High this fall, had a 10-dive total of 429.15, well ahead of bronze medalist Mac McDermott (381.90 points) of Alexandria, Va.
Suzie Dorrough, Wood’s teammate on the Los Angeles Diving Club of Northridge, placed sixth in the girls age 13-and-under division on the one-meter springboard. The Woodland Hills resident had an eight-dive total of 243.20.
Joy Burkholder of Mission Viejo won the event with 269.45 points.
The diving competition runs through Sunday. Among the events scheduled for today are platform diving in the boys and girls 13-and-under divisions, the three-meter springboard in the girls 16-18 division and the one-meter springboard in the boys 16-18 division.
