The Region : U.S., Mexico Reach Quake Aid Pact

The United States and Mexico agreed to exchange emergency workers and materials to provide rescue, medical, utility and firefighting services in the event of a damaging earthquake in the San Diego-Tijuana border area. The agreements were worked out in three days of meetings in Coronado. According to a California Divisions of Mines and Geology report, a magnitude 6.8 quake on the Silver Strand Fault off the coast of both countries would knock out water, power, sewer and telephone service over a widespread area.
