Phillips Wins 2 Golds in Kayak Competition

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Orange County competitors dominated the women’s kayak events in the U.S. Canoe and Kayak Championships Saturday, with Traci Phillips of Newport Beach winning gold medals in the 500-meter and 5,000-meter solo races.
Shirley Dery-Batlick of Costa Mesa and Sheila Conover of Newport Beach won the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the 500-meter event.
The 75-race championships began Thursday and continue through today at the Busse Reservoir in this northwestern Chicago suburb.
