Pan American World Airways has asked the Transportation Department for permission to begin operating daily nonstop flights between Seattle and Tokyo. The flights also would require the approval of the Japanese government. Pan Am’s move came about a year and a half after it pulled out of Pacific service, having sold its routes there to United Airlines for $750 million. Pan Am recently announced plans to resume flights to Honolulu.
