Building Damaged : Earthquake Forces Ticor to Operate Out of Tents

It takes more than the Oct. 1 earthquake to stop Ticor Title Insurance, which has been operating its Rosemead plant out of tents and trailers since a strong aftershock on Oct. 4.
“I understand that the epicenter was across the street,” Joann H. Shanley, a spokesman for the firm, said about the 4 a.m. aftershock. “But we got our tents set up that day, and there were no delays. Our computers were never down.”
It will be about 10 days before the operation will be moved to temporary, off-premises offices and a couple of months before Ticor can move back into its 200,000-square-foot facility, one of the largest title insurance plants in the world.
In the meantime, to compensate for what Shanley describes as “unorthodox” working conditions, Ticor has provided employees with complimentary breakfasts and lunches and T-shirts saying, “We’re so stable, not even an earthquake can shake us up.”
