The pilot of a single-engine plane that crashed on Halloween in a canyon near Mt. Hamilton in Santa Clara County hobbled three miles with a broken leg to get help for his passenger. David Riffle, 37, of Campbell, and passenger Cliff Cordy, 49, of San Jose, were in stable condition at a hospital, officials said. The plane’s right wing tip clipped a tree and it plunged to the ground in a canyon about two miles east of Mt. Hamilton, 10 miles east of San Jose.
