Local News in Brief : Panel Set Up for Boaters

The Redondo Beach City Council has unanimously approved setting up a nine-member advisory committee to address the complaints and concerns of King Harbor boaters.
Committee members will be chosen by the harbor boaters, many of whom have complained to the council in the past few months about problems with the harbor’s master lessees.
The land and pier at King Harbor are owned by the city but are leased to 18 master lessees, who sublease the property or operate businesses there.
No master lessees will be on the committee, which will be a city-supported group.
Mayor Barbara J. Doerr said boaters have tried unsuccessfully to get on the Harbor Commission, which is appointed by the mayor with council confirmation. The committee was formed this week by a 4 to 0 council vote.
