Singer Co. reported that it has begun preliminary discussions with U.S. and foreign companies on a possible takeover. The military contractor being sought by investor Paul Bilzerian, which last week rejected a $50-a-share or $1.05 billion offer from Bilzerian, did not identify the companies and said in a statement it would not do so until an agreement in principle had been reached.
