Holy Cross Routs Villanova, 39-6, Finishes Unbeaten

VILLANOVA, Pa. — Jeff Wiley threw for 381 yards and Gordie Lockbaum scored three touchdowns Thursday night to lead Holy Cross to a 39-6 victory over Villanova and give the Crusaders their first unbeaten season since 1918.
Holy Cross (11-0), the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division 1-AA poll that will not participate in the playoffs.
Lockbaum caught 14 passes for 196 yards--both school records--and two touchdowns. The touchdown receptions gave Lockbaum 16 for his career, also a Holy Cross record, breaking the mark set by Johnny Turco in 1952.
Lockbaum also scored on a 2-yard run, giving him 27 rushing touchdowns in his career, breaking the school mark of 26 set by Gill Fenerty in 1985.
