Plans for a multistory garage and other improvements to Bolsa Chica State Beach will be considered Tuesday by the State Park and Recreation Commission at a public hearing in the Huntington Beach City Council chambers.
The city recently approved an overall plan for improvements on 2 1/2 miles of state-owned beach north of the pier. The Bolsa Chica State Beach General Plan Amendment includes the garage, a 10,000-square-foot restaurant, a concession stand and a surf museum. The city would pay the estimated $13 million for the garage, which is subject to commission approval because it is on state property.
The plan has drawn support from local merchants and real estate agents and opposition from slow-growth advocates. The garage would be next to a planned village of retail shops and restaurants named Pierside Village, part of a 330-acre downtown redevelopment area.
