Group Offers Help to Mother of Child Abandoned at Store

A Huntington Beach group called Mothers Against Child Abuse on Saturday offered the services of an attorney to the person who abandoned an infant behind an Anaheim supermarket on Nov. 21, according to spokesperson Sally Nava Kanarek. The child is in good condition at Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim.
The group, founded two years ago, also plans to offer a reward, the amount of which has not been determined, for information leading to the identity of the baby’s parents.
The purpose of the group, Kanarek said, is “to let parents know that help is available and that they don’t have to abandon their children. It’s not a crime not to want a child, or not to be able to take care of it. It is a crime to abandon or hurt one.”
Kanarek said the group also provides volunteers to help teen mothers and parents of handicapped children.
