Creighton Women Beat Irvine, 64-65

UC Irvine guard Kippie Brown missed a 15-foot jumper with 11 seconds remaining Saturday as Creighton’s women’s basketball team beat the Anteaters, 65-64, in the consolation game of the Freedom Bowl tournament at the Bren Center.
Irvine led by six (62-56) with 5:34 left in the game but went more than three minutes without scoring and then failed to score again after Brown hit a baseline jumper with 2:33 left.
Colorado beat St. John’s, 79-62, in the championship game. The Lady Buffs were paced by tournament most valuable player Erin Carson, who hit 6 of 9 three-point attempts and finished with 28 points.
UCI’s Natalie Crawford, who reached double figures in scoring (16) and rebounding (10) for the second game in a row, was the only Anteater on the all-tournament team. Guard Cheryl Hoffman made 4 of 7 from the field and 6 of 7 free throws to score 14 for UCI.
Creighton was paced by guard Pam Gradoville, an all-tournament selection, who had 28 points and 8 rebounds.
