Seymour’s Son Pleads Guilty, Gets $150 Fine and Probation

The 20-year-old son of state Sen. John Seymour (R-Anaheim) pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of disturbing the peace, which stemmed from his arrest last month at a Hollywood hotel.

After entering his plea, Jeffrey Seymour was ordered by Hollywood Municipal Judge Sandy Kriegler to spend five days in Los Angeles County Jail or pay a $150 fine, and he was placed on two years’ summary probation.

Seymour received an extension until Dec. 14 to pay the fine. Also, he is scheduled to appear at a Dec. 23 hearing to see if he owes any restitution connected with the incident.

He was booked on a misdemeanor battery charge after a security guard at the Hollywood Holiday Inn made a citizen’s arrest on Oct. 26. Police said the guard reported that he was checking on complaints by hotel guests at about 1 a.m., when he told Seymour and a friend, Sean Morphew, 22, that they were being too loud and asked them to leave.

A scuffle involving two guards reportedly erupted before Seymour and Morphew were subdued and the police were called.

Morphew pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge. Trial in his case was set for Dec. 16.

Sen. Seymour said Monday that his son, who is enrolled at Cal State Long Beach in the coming semester, “feels very badly about what happened.”

“He’s got to pay the fine like everybody else, and on top of that he has a lot of notoriety” because he is the son of a state senator, Seymour said.
