Local News in Brief : Newbury Park Woman Is Killed by Train
- Share via
A Newbury Park woman visiting relatives for the Thanksgiving holiday was killed when she was hit by a freight train in Edmonds, Wash., authorities said.
Marie Louise Moore, 28, was walking along the tracks near her relatives’ home Sunday and probably did not hear the train behind her or its whistle because she was listening to a radio through earphones, Fire Department Lt. Bill Angel said.
Snohomish County medical investigator Rick Balam said the engineer on the Burlington Northern freight train sounded the whistle and tried in vain to stop. The engineer was not identified.
Angel said the woman was visiting an aunt and uncle who live near the tracks.
