Chantal Bournissen of Switzerland scored an upset victory in the World Cup downhill ski race at Val D’Isere, France. Finishing second and third were West Germans Marina Kiehl and Ulrika Stanggassinger.
Bournissen, 20, competing in just her second World Cup season, was timed in 1 minute 22.64 seconds on the 2,199-meter course.
Kiehl, a super giant slalom specialist, was clocked in 1:22.74. Stanggassinger followed in 1:22.94.
Maria Walliser of Switzerland, winner of Friday’s downhill, finished 17th in 1:23.77.
Pam Fletcher was the top United States finisher. She was 12th in 1:23.66.
