Granada Hills Wins Heat in City Meet

Although Granada Hills High ran without its top runner, Ian Alsen, the Highlanders rolled to an impressive victory in the second heat of the City Section cross-country preliminaries at Pierce College on Saturday.
Alsen was competing in--and winning--the Kinney West regional in Fresno. Craig Lawson and Paul Klinedinst picked up the slack, however, placing first and second for Granada Hills.
Lawson ran 14 minutes, 29 seconds over the 2.8-mile course and Klinedinst ran 14:34 as the Highlanders scored 26 points.
Belmont, the five-time defending City champion, won the first heat with 23 points and Birmingham won the third heat with 39 points.
Sabino Miranda of Birmingham ran 14:28, the fastest time of the meet.
The City championships will be held at Pierce on Saturday.
