Southern Methodist will get no football revenues from television or bowl appearances in the 1988 season, the Southwest Conference ruled at its winter meeting in Dallas.
Conference officials also ruled that the remaining 50% of revenue the Mustangs are eligible to receive from the 1987 season will be placed in escrow and given to the school upon its return to football in 1989.
Southwest Conference Commissioner Fred Jacoby said about $300,000 will be placed in escrow. SMU will lose about $600,000 in 1988 because of National Collegiate Athletic Assn. and conference penalties.
