The oldest Peace Corps volunteer, Charles Bellamy, 83, of Pasadena, will be among 200 Los Angeles Peace Corps veterans who will receive the 1987 Beyond War Award at 1:30 p.m. today at the Scottish Rite Auditorium. Bellamy served in Kenya from 1983 to 1985.
The Los Angeles group will share the award with 6,000 peers nationwide via satellite. Also being honored are Sargent Shriver and Bill Moyers, the Peace Corps’ first directors.
The Beyond War Foundation, a nonprofit educational organization, presents the award annually. Past recipients are the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, the Five Continent Peace Initiative and the Contadora Group.
