Maureen Custy of Denver ran the fastest American marathon of the year by a woman, clocking 2 hours 33 minutes 38 seconds to win the 10th annual San Diego Holiday Bowl-Channel 10 Marathon.
Winner of the men’s division was Don Janicki of Tucson in 2:12:06.
Custy, 32, bettered the previous fastest American time of the year by 31 seconds. It was run by Cyndie Welte.
