The time was set in a 25-meter pool and does not count for an official world record. The previous best in a 25-meter pool was 3:41.74 set by another East German team at Indianapolis in January 1983.
The official world record in a 50-meter pool is 3:40.57 set at the World Championships at Spain in 1986 by another East German team.
