Coronado Couple Found Dead in Murder-Suicide

A murder-suicide took the lives of a Coronado couple early Sunday, Coronado police said.
Police were called to an Orange Avenue apartment shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday by neighbors who reported hearing a loud argument and shots, a Coronado police spokeswoman said.
Officers attempted to contact the apartment’s occupants by telephone and other means but received no response, the spokeswoman said. Believing that a gunman may have barricaded himself with a hostage, Coronado police requested assistance from San Diego County sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team and evacuated residents of the apartment and several nearby buildings.
After repeated unsuccessful attempts to contact the couple, SWAT officers forced their way into the apartment shortly before 7 a.m. Inside, they found a dead man and woman; both had suffered gunshot wounds.
A San Diego County coroner’s office spokesman said the man apparently killed his wife before turning the gun on himself. Neither victim’s name had been released as of late Sunday, pending notification of relatives.
