Candidate Tax
Better than Donald McWilliams’ percentage plan for reducing our national debt (Letters, Nov. 5), I recommend a surcharge on any major party candidacy on the federal level. After all, it is the politicians who spent us into this mess. This plan would also accomplish two other goals. It would eliminate the need to raise taxes and it would reduce the money available to the candidate to produce those smarmy television spots to which we are subjected each election year.
