BERLIN — Sports powerhouse East Germany and Soviet Bloc ally Hungary today announced that they will participate in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea.
Willi Daume, a West German vice president of the International Olympic Committee, said the official announcements by the two Communist countries indicated that other Soviet allies also will send teams to Seoul. There has been concern that Soviet allies might boycott the 1988 Olympics if Communist North Korea is not given the right to stage some Olympic events.
