GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Doctors revived a 19-month-old boy today after he was trapped under water for 20 to 25 minutes when his mother’s skidding car flipped, broke through ice on a frozen canal and sank.
Stephen Edmonds was in critical condition at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, where he was flown by helicopter. His mother, Deborah Edmonds, 21, suffered only minor injuries. A paramedic who dived into the canal and pulled the boy from the car after smashing out a car window said the boy had no pulse at first but after about 15 minutes started breathing on his own.
