Series of Performing Arts Lectures, Events Set at UC Santa Barbara

A number of noted personalities from the performing arts will participate in a continuing series of lectures and special events at the University of California, Santa Barbara, throughout the month of January.
Writer June Jordan and composer Adrienne Torf will present “The Music of Poetry and the Poetry of Music,” an evening of musical performance and poetry readings that deal with art and activism, on Monday at 8 p.m., .
On Tuesday at 4 p.m., academy award-winning composer Elmer Bernstein will be the guest lecturer at a program entitled “Jazz and the Cinema,” during which clips from several of the movies he scored will be screened. Among Bernstein’s most popular films are “The Magnificent Seven” and “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
“The Evolution of an American Original: An Evening With Luis Valdez” will be held on Friday at 8 p.m. The award-winning playwright, actor and director, who wrote and directed the films “Zoot Suit” and “La Bamba,” will discuss the various aspects of his show business career.
