La Verne : University Renovation

The University of La Verne has received $300,000 from the James Irvine Foundation to renovate Miller Hall, the school’s first building, which opened in 1919. Once a dormitory for women, the three-story building was closed in 1969 because it was not considered strong enough to withstand a major earthquake.
College spokesmen said the building will be reinforced and the interior will be refurbished. It will house the humanities division, including offices, classrooms, writing and computer laboratories, a photography studio and a university center for faculty and staff.
