Windows rattled but there was little damage to homes surrounding Stonecress Park in Fountain Valley when a device of unknown origin exploded under a footbridge in the park late Tuesday, police said.
The 9:16 p.m. explosion rocked the neighborhood near the park at the corner of Azalea Avenue and San Jacinto Street, Sgt. Larry Griswold said. The device had been placed under a footbridge that crosses over a drainage canal leading from the park to Northcutt Elementary School, Griswold said.
No one was hurt, and the footbridge was only slightly damaged, Griswold said. He said police are trying to determine what type of device was exploded and who planted it.
