The Weingart Foundation of Los Angeles has given $2.5 million toward planned construction of a new computer- and video-intensive teaching library at the USC, announced the school’s president, James H. Zumberge.
The new library will have hundreds of individual computer and audio-visual work stations available to students around the clock. Charles Ritcheson, dean of USC libraries, said the project will ease overcrowding at other facilities on campus and prepare students “for full participation in the complex, technology-driven world of the 21st Century.”
The grant is the first major gift toward the $22.5 million needed for the library, which school officials hope will be constructed within three years.
