A man who wired a shotgun to the head of a mortgage company president and paraded him through downtown Indianapolis almost 11 years ago won his freedom. Special Judge James E. Harris lifted an order that had sought to place Anthony G. Kiritsis, 55, temporarily in the care of a guardian. Kiritsis had resisted the Dec. 7 guardianship order, opting instead to remain in a state mental hospital. The lifting of the guardianship order in effect grants Kiritsis unconditional freedom, but a doctor said it could be days before he leaves the hospital. Kiritsis has been held involuntarily in state institutions, refusing psychiatric treatment, since February, 1977, when he surrendered after holding Richard O. Hall hostage for 63 hours. Kiritsis had blamed Hall’s company for financial losses on some property. He was found innocent by reason of insanity in November, 1977.
