COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Chapman Beats Davis, Finishes Third

TACOMA, Wash. — Kelly Huston scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Russ Ortega scored 21 points to lead Chapman College’s men’s basketball team to an 83-70 victory over UC Davis in the third-place game of the Puget Sound Holiday tournament Wednesday.
Huston, a 6-foot 6-inch senior averaging 22.5 points and 9.4 rebounds, scored 19 points in the second half to help the Panthers (6-4) break open a close game. His two free throws with 6:06 left gave Chapman its first lead since the game-opening basket and started a 9-0 run over the next 3:02, ending on a three-pointer by Ortega from the top of the key.
Chapman outscored the Aggies, 24-11, during the final 6:30, mainly at the line. Chapman made 22 of 24 free-throw attempts in the second half (28 of 31 for the game).
Ortega made 7 of 9 shots from the field, including all three of his three-point attempts. Freshman Bryan Richetto was 8 for 8 from the line and had 11 assists. Andy Stensgard was 8 for 9 from the field.
For Davis, Jason Rabedeaux hit five three-pointers and led the team with 21 points. Randy DeBortoli scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds for the Aggies (5-7).
