Local News in Brief : Stalker Trial Delay Asked

Attorneys for Night Stalker suspect Richard Ramirez sought to postpone his often delayed trial until April, prompting the judge to chastise them for filing last-minute motions.
“I am getting a little tired of this last-minute stuff,” Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Tynan told attorneys Daniel Hernandez and Arturo Hernandez. “I realize you have a very complex case. . . . But when you nickel and dime me by filing motions at the last minute, it’s a little annoying, to say the least.”
The lawyers, who are not related, asked Tynan on Tuesday to delay the trial, set to start Feb. 1, until April 1 to give them more time to prepare Ramirez’s defense. Tynan scheduled a hearing on the request for Thursday.
Ramirez, a self-proclaimed devil worshiper from El Paso, Tex., is charged with 13 of the so-called Night Stalker murders and 30 other felonies in Los Angeles County.
