In another South Coast Conference game:

Compton 91, Golden West 77--Vincent Camper scored 29 points to lead host Compton (12-4, 1-0). Markus Muller-Stach scored 25 points for the Rustlers (10-7, 0-1).

In the Mesa Arizona tournament:

Cypress 55, Meramec (Mo.) 49--Jeff Green had 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Chargers in the third-place game. Jim Sammon scored 13 points for Cypress (16-5).

In women’s South Coast Conference play:

Golden West 135, Compton 65--Jeannine Battaglia and Kris Takayama scored 21 points each for Golden West, which set a single-game team scoring record. Golden West had scored 132 points against Los Angeles Valley in 1979.

Kathy Werth scored 17 points and had 20 rebounds, Shannon Stewart added 17 points, Allyson Jenkins had 14 points and 13 rebounds, Stephanie Swanson scored 12 and Kim Takayama 13 for Golden West (16-1, 1-0), which has won 14 straight.

Cerritos 60, Fullerton 57--Michelle Warner scored 18 points and Brenda Longe had 12 to lead host Cerritos (1-0, 14-4). Steffi Sprauss had 15 points for Fullerton and Kelli Johnson added 10. Fullerton led, 32-24, at halftime, but was outscored in the second half, 36-25.
