Gas Bills Soar in Winter Chill

What kind of totalitarian state are we living in that Big Brother can decide to penalize us for trying to keep warm in our homes? I am, of course, referring to the Legislature’s 1982 act that in effect allows a public utility to charge you three times their cost if you exceed 72 therms. We shouldn’t be charged any more than the public utilities actual costs. The legislators who voted for this idiotic law should be shipped off to some totalitarian state where this type of thinking belongs. Don’t they realize that some arthritics require a warmer temperature than others? And who is going to waste heat anyway? Is it addictive to be hot, or a status symbol to go around sweating in your house?
If they want to insure people can afford to have enough heat that is all well and good, but let’s not do it by ripping off the public.
