Scantron Corp. reported that net earnings for the third quarter ended March 31 edged up 2%, to $618,000 from $607,000 for the comparable period a year earlier. Sales for the quarter were $8 million, 25% higher than last year’s $6.4 million. The company posted a 28% increase in earnings for the first nine months of the year, to $2.4 million from $1.9 million for the 1987 period. Sales for the nine months increased 17%, to $23.1 million from $19.7 million a year ago. Tustin-based Scantron makes reading equipment and related scannable forms for educational, commercial and health-care markets and government agencies.
