‘The Wasp’s Nest’
Romania, 1987, 116 minutes, 5:30 p.m . Occasionally tedious, decidedly talky yet altogether fascinating. Ostensibly a satire on the vulgarity and insensitivity of prewar Romania’s nouveau riche painted with broad dark strokes by writer-director Horea Popescu. The film truly revels in the comic awfulness of three rich, elderly battle-ax sisters as they wreak havoc on their families.
