I was one of many who attended the performance of “Gurrelieder” (at the Orange County Performing Arts Center) and came away with a feeling of tremendous pride to think that Keith Clark and the Pacific Symphony would tackle a work of such monumental proportions and with such extraordinary results.
The orchestra and soloists performed admirably, (and) the conductor was so sensitive to the needs of all of the artists that one can only be grateful for the privilege of attending this event.
How many orchestras throughout the country have the courage to present this type of programming? Not many.
Instead of being derisive, why not try a bit of encouragement where deserved? Good criticism need not always be negative and disdainful.
