Mariners Call Up Former Titan

The Seattle Mariners have called up reliever Mike Schooler, a former Cal State Fullerton pitcher, from their triple-A team in Calgary, Canada, the team announced Friday.
Schooler was 4-4 with a 3.21 earned-run average and 8 saves for Calgary of the Pacific Coast League. He struck out 47 and allowed 33 hits and 6 walks in 34 innings.
To make room for Schooler, reliever Julio Solano, who had a team-high three saves, was sent to Calgary.
Schooler is expected to become the Mariners late-inning stopper, and Mike Moore, who has filled that role, is expected to return to the starting rotation, team spokesman Ethan Kelly said.
Schooler graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1980 and played at Cypress and Golden West colleges before he attended Cal State Fullerton in 1985.
He was drafted by Seattle in the second round in June 1985. He was 13-8 with a 3.46 ERA last season for Seattle’s double-A team in Chattanooga, Tenn.
