Workers at Zenith Electronics Corp.’s Springfield, Mo., television manufacturing plant want to buy the factory, but Zenith is blocking their bid, the employees’ union had charged. “Zenith is actively talking with other bidders, including foreign firms, but so far refuses even to provide its employees with the financial information necessary to structure a bid,” said J. J. Barry, president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Zenith spokesman John Taylor, reached by telephone at company headquarters in Glenview, Ill., said he was aware of the IBEW’s charges but had no further comment.
