Houston, the former deputy mayor and chief of staff of the city of Los Angeles, is reported to have said that he worked nearly full-time during his last six months as deputy mayor searching for a job in private industry. Earning a yearly city salary of $85,301, Houston was paid $42,650 to look for a job. Of course, the mayor states that during this time period Houston was fully occupied with city business. (i.e. the solid-waste disposal plan)
So which is it? An egregious waste of taxpayer dollars or sleazy influence peddling?
