Trade Talks End on Divided Note

BRAINERD, Minn. — The United States, Canada, Japan and the European Community concluded a round of trade talks today with negotiators saying they had resolved some questions but remained far apart on the contentious issue of farm subsidies.
At a news conference concluding the two days of meetings, U.S. Trade Representative Clayton K. Yeutter said that much more work was needed before the farm subsidy issue could be resolved and at least for the present the United States was not willing to modify its demand for the elimination of all subsidies by the year 2000.
