Authorities on Monday released the name of a woman killed this weekend on the Golden State Freeway in Castaic when a tanker truck collided with a tractor-trailer rig and a camper truck.
Patricia Burns, 51, of Phoenix, was killed Sunday afternoon when the driver of the tanker truck, traveling between 55 m.p.h. and 65 m.p.h., lost control of the truck’s brakes and struck the rear of the camper that Burns was driving, said Officer Ralph Elvira of the California Highway Patrol.
The camper was pushed into the tractor-trailer, which the tanker also hit, Elvira said. The camper “split in half” and Burns was thrown onto the roadway, Elvira said.
Burns was dead when emergency crews arrived, Elvira said. The tanker, driven by Orvil Yarboa, 26, of Lindsay, came to rest on its side, authorities said. Yarboa was treated for minor injuries at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and released.
