STAND BY FOR (RE)DEVELOPMENTS

On June 22, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance establishing a neighborhood redevelopment plan for 14 areas in Orange County. After review by a consultant and a series of public hearings, slight modification was made to the original list. Deleted were the Denni-Marion Island area of La Palma, part of the Inter-Canyons project area west of Santiago Canyon Road near Modjeska, and the Santa Ana Country Club golf course. The tax increment being used to fund these projects began accumulating with the start of the fiscal year on July 1.

In late summer or early fall, the Orange County Housing and Community Development staff will begin meetings with citizen groups from each of the areas to establish project priorities. Housing rehabilitation, street lighting, sidewalks, storm drains, child care and senior citizen centers are some of the most requested improvements. Redevelopment is scheduled to begin next year.

These are the 14 areas listed for projects: 1. Olive Island, near Lincoln Avenue and Orange Olive Road

2. El Modena, near Hewes Street and Chapman Avenue

3. Northeast El Modena, near Walnut Avenue and Hewes Street

4. Newport Heights/Costa Mesa Highlands, near Santa Ana Avenue and 22nd Street

5. El Toro, near El Toro Road and Rockfield Boulevard

6. Inter-Canyons area; combines Silverado, Modjeska, Santiago and Trabuco Canyons

7. Anaheim Island, near Chapman Avenue and Dale Street

8. West Garden Grove Island, near Dale Street and Lampson Avenue

9. Anaheim-Brookhurst area, near Ball Road and Brookhurst Street

10. Southwest Anaheim Island, near Gilbert Street and Katella Avenue

11. Colonia Independencia, near Katella Avenue and Gilbert Street

12. Mac Island, north of Katella Avenue and west of Magnolia Street

13. Cypress Island, near Moody Street and Lincoln Avenue

14. Midway City, near Beach Boulevard and Bolsa Avenue
