Katella Girls Lose in Bell-Jeff Summer Basketball Finale

JoJo Witherspoon and Lisa Leslie each scored 22 points as Morningside High School defeated Katella, 50-35, Friday to win its third consecutive Bell-Jeff Summer Hoop Finale at Bellarmine Jefferson High School in Burbank.

Leading, 14-10, after one quarter, Morningside outscored Katella, 10-4, in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead at the half. Morningside extended its lead to 36-22 after three quarters.

Joni Easterly had 17 points and Margaret Parker 10 for Katella.

In the third-place game, Brea-Olinda defeated Alemany, 43-26. Brea outscored Alemany, 14-0, in the first quarter. Aimee McDaniel had 13 points and Tammy Blackburn 11 for Brea.
