Toxic Wastes

As a concerned citizen, I am writing in response to your article on the La Jolla incinerator. Incinerators, ineffective or effective, will not solve the toxic waste problem in California, simply because they do not address the cause.
Although toxic cleanup is necessary for the protection of our environment and particularly our water, we cannot rid ourselves of toxic hazards until we actually reduce our use and production of these chemicals and pesticides in the first place.
The Toxics Use Reduction Act, now under consideration in the Senate Toxics Committee, will ensure a reduction in the use of dangerous chemicals across the state. The use and the consequent disposal of fewer chemicals into the environment is the only guaranteed method to prevent the damage caused by toxic materials.
