Pier Closing

I wish to register my protest at the manner in which the Huntington Beach Pier was closed.
The ruthless heavy-handedness with which Ella Christensen was put out of business and publicly humiliated was an unconscionable political blunder. She not only did not have any notice after leasing her businesses from the city for 37 years, she was the last to know of the pier’s closing. There were so many other decent options to the manner in which this was handled.
I now understand that structurally there is evidence that the portion of the pier where her businesses are located is not in any immediate danger and that minimal structural shoring would render this portion safe for opening.
I support the structural repairs and reopening of that section of the pier until the city has the money to actually begin the construction of the new pier. It will also afford Ella time to relocate in a more humane manner.
