Western Digital, which until now has focused its efforts on supplying products for the IBM personal computer market, has introduced its first product for the Apple Computer market.

The company said Monday that it has begun marketing two hard-disk drives for Apple Macintosh, IIe and IIGS models. Hard disks are rigid aluminum disks used to store information in personal computers.

Western Digital Chairman Roger W. Johnson said the Apple disk drive “extends the company’s historical strength in storage technology to reach a rapidly expanding market.”

The Irvine computer products manufacturer cited market forecasts that predict the sales of hard disks for the Macintosh will reach 630,000 units this year, more than doubling 1987 sales.
