Ten candidates are vying for three seats on the Castaic Lake Water Agency board in the Nov. 8 ballot.

In Division 1, which includes Canyon Country and part of Saugus, incumbent Bill J. Thompson is being challenged by Don Jennings, a retired program manager from Canyon Country.

Division 2 incumbent Edward G. (Jerry) Gladbach, board president, will face three opponents--William J. Broyles, a contractor and school district employee; Robert Lathrop, a retired engineering manager, and Donald E. Walters, a Newhall businessman. Division 2 covers the Newhall-Valencia area.

Joel David Schecter, the incumbent in Division 3, which includes Castaic and parts of Saugus and Valencia, also has three challengers. They are James Gates, a water chemist; Michael A. Kotch, an engineer, and Lawrence C. (Larry) Williams, a utility budget analyst.

The agency provides water to the Santa Clarita Valley’s four water purveyors, who in turn sell it to area homeowners. The agency’s board has 11 directors. They are paid $100 each per meeting.

The deadline for filing for the agency board was 5 p.m. Friday, said Marcia Ventura, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County registrar-recorder’s office.
